Question about Georgia
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 2:55 PM
I'm about to take a business trip to Stone Mountain, Georgia. Does anyone know the approximate train frequency of that particular CSX line? Thanks in advance.

A 1998 map I have shows 14 million gross ton miles per year. This is pretty light. My guess is 8-10 trains a day or so. A heavy duty double track mainline will be in the 70-100 MGT/yr range. A better bet in the near Stone Mountain is the CSX Abbeville Sub. It has over double the traffic of the line thru Stone Mtn. It's a short distance to the northwest (Tucker) There can be lulls of a couple of hours, but that is balanced flurries of activity. The heaviest density in the Atlanta area near the CNN blg and NS's Atlanta offices where CSX and NS funnel all the north-south traffic. Also, the CSX and NS lines to the west and north out of Atlanta have higher density than those on the east side.
