Very few freight trains run on fixed schedules so it is difficult to tell when they will come. However, most intermodal trains to try to hold to advertised schedules because they frequently handle "Just In Time Shipments" which must get to the customer by a certain time or the production line shuts down.

The fact that there are no timetables for freight trains has promoted the use of scanners by railfans .so they know what's going on. If a signal maintainer calls the dispatcher, asks for track time, and receives it, that in itself may provide useful information because it tells the listener no trains are expected during that period.

Here is the best site that I know of, although it is CSX. However it is VERY hit and miss. For example, it appears to have all of the locals out of Gainesville, GA, but it does not appear to have a single one for Winder or Athens. (For the reasons mentioned above these cities may not have regular locals...)

bullsheet.com Go under the "Trains" section.

Thier used to be another really good site for CSX, but for some reason it shut down. I believe it had some issues with CSX post 9/11, but I don't think that those were what caused it to shut down.

If you find anything let me know as I would be interested as well.[;)]

A good ten channel programable scanner, and Radio Shack's "Beyond Police Scanner," booklet can let you in on the world of railroading, and with a little practice, and a "DeLorme Topograhic Atlas"(Walmart), you can arrive where the trains are. I'm not much into any other scanner interests, however I've enjoyed many years and learned many things, until someone stole the darned thing out of my truck! Enjoy Railroad Audio. ACJ.

Hi Gang,

I just joined this forum today and I noticed on here someone was askin about train schedules on NS. Well, I dont know if anyone ever thought of this but I would check out www.wgpf.com for a few of the NS/CSX Mid Atlantic trains. Another spot would (and I dont know if there are any members here from that group) but Trainorders.com. Happy Railfanning!
