I just move to Austin a few weeks ago. I am looking for local train watch location or yard. Does any one recommend a locations?

I moved from Austin newly 2 years ago but get back frequently. I liked to sit on the hike and bike bridge across Town Lake next to the Lamar St bridge and watch the trains crossing the railroad bridge to the south. It is comfortable and safe. Depending on the day there are 10 to 25 trains crossing that bridge - mostly north bound due to directional running. (most south bound trains go through Smithville.) This time of the year, the southbound Texas Eagle gets to Austin around 8 PM so it crosses the bridge in daylight. Check the Amtrak schedule.

ps - there is a Starbucks just across the tracks to the north on Lamar.
I started to look a few days ago but I only see a few trains. Mostly trains coming from Mexico thru Austin. I am looking for locations to see and take pictures. I guest UP own the line thru the Austin. I am trying to get settle down. What other lines run thru the city? Does the city has a yard that you recommend?

Austin does not have much in the way of yards - virtually no industry to serve. The only other railroad is Capital Metro's Austin & Northwest with a small yard by McNeil & MoPac.
Yes whenever I go rail fanning in Austin (where I live) I average 1 train per hour. The NB Texas Eagle when on time reaches the bridge over the river around 0925 hours. If you want to go to the Slaughter Ave overpass (SW Austin) you can see a passing siding there. Check out the web site in my signature to see my pixs from my train fanning forays in Austin
