Heading home through Marysville, CA, just now (5:30 p.m., Mon. 9/15) spotted some red colors leading a southbound freight through town on the former SP main line between Redding and Roseville. I re-routed and headed south down the freeway to get a look. Turns out the three engines were CEFX 112, trailed by CP 8653 facing forward and CP 8650 facing back. Didn't have a camera in the Explorer... but the late afternoon sun brought out the bright reds on the CP engines and gave the gold seal a real glow. I live a few blocks from this line and can't say I've ever seen CP or CEFX power in this area. By now, the train is probably through Sheridan or Lincoln, heading to UP's former SP yard in Roseville. No clue where it was ultimately going. Since BNSF got trackage rights over UP, its been quite colorful in Marysville, the home of Binney Junction, where the former SP and Western Pacific lines cross at the north end of town. UP spent more than a million bucks upgrading the junction. It allows better re-direction of trains from one main onto the other. BNSF uses the old WP to go south. Northbound BNSF stack trains frequently are left sitting on the siding in Marysville under the 10th St. bridge near the Longs/Albertsons store. Ted Langdell.
