I am doing research on the history of the quarry at the edge of Glen Gardner, NJ, which was once owned by CRRNJ and used for ballast rock (1850's-1860's?). About a mile south of that quarry, is another quarry on Rocky Run Road, which was apparently also used for ballast (1900-1910??). Does anyone have any stories or photos which relate to either of these locations? Photos showing either of the train stations at Glen Gardner - passenger or freight - or the water towers, either quarry, the "stone cracker" (stone breaker) or the small ore cars used to carry the ballast the few hundred feet to the main line would be especially useful. Also, does anyone know where infomation on John O. Sterns (aka. John O. Stearns) could be found? He served as a construction superintendent and engineer for the CRRNJ, and also had title to much of this land at one point, and, it seems, was responsible for the introduction of the stone breaker to the site.
