Forest fire disrupts CN in Alberta's Jasper National Park
Posted by SD70Dude on Monday, September 5, 2022 3:50 PM

This is about 8 or 10 miles north of the town of Jasper.

Our mainline was closed for most of yesterday afternoon and evening after this lightning-caused fire advanced close to the track.  It has also affected the only power line that supplies the town of Jasper, which has been experiencing intermittent power outages.

This is the best photo I've seen so far, if you're not familiar with the area this photo is looking north northeast (downstream) along the Athabasca valley, with the Snaring River campground in the lower right. The track runs along the north/west shore of Jasper Lake, right where those spot of fire are in the background. The cut line at bottom centre is the Trans Mountain pipeline right-of-way, which the power line also runs along.
