13D Paint Schemes
Posted by BEAUSABRE on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 4:10 PM

Back in the Sixties, X2200S coined the term "13D" for the then popular dark colored, rather subdued paint schemes that seemed to be being implemented everywhere. Every one knew what it stood for - something like "Dark, Dirty, Depressing..." but I have never seen a list of the 13 items that made up "13D". Can anyone provide a list that is not a guess?

I always thought that it was just a play on 3D-which meant really lifelike and original.

It's more like the convention in I2R or C3I (which I think is now up to C5I), where the number means that number of alliterative words.

I always thought the '13' was in there to mean bad-luck or unfortunate, like file 13, not as an accurate listing of dark, drab, depressing, dingy, dim, dusty, decrepit, deteriorated, derelict dregs of diesel decoration.
