Watching lots of graincovered hoppers roll by, I saw something I didn't understand. A lot of them had what looked like giant earthworn tracks. They were meandering strings of bulges from the inside, maybe 2-3 inches across and 4 to 5 feet long, usually at a somewhat vertical angle. . Is there some kind of equipment used to pound the inside of grain cars that leaves tracks?
