Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Balt, that is a fantastic video. Thanks for the post. Hard to believe that there are still armstrong interlockings still operating. But that train density is greater than anything in this country.
Don't see many train "drivers" engineers in the states wearing ties. Hane had a proper British Breakfast at 125 mph on a morning train out of London and it was a nice experience. Nice to see that the "civilized" english people complain about fares and late trains. Not quite as vociferous as Americans in my estimation.
"The Railway - Keeping Britain on Track" is the series of which this is one of the six parts.
Here is the playlist containing all six parts in order;
The Railway - Keeping Britain on Track
I thought it was a very interesting series of videos.
A friend and I rode the West Coast Main from London to Glasgow back in 2002. An amateur Scottish football (soccer) team got on at Carlisle. They had gone down for a match and were on their way home with their equipment bags filled with beer. They proceded to get loud and drunk, but really didn't bother anyone. As we were pulling into Glasgow, the loudest, drunkest one stood up and apologized to everyone for the way they acted. It was the funniest, most amazing thing.
The next morning, I met my future wife... It was a great trip!
