Okay, I've been participating in a thread that currently totals 5 pages. Normally one would expect this thread to have a navigation "guide" at the bottom of each page, with a clickable link for each page ie [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
Always been that way, never had a problem with it. But in the above mentioned 5 page thread, I'm seeing the following:
Notice that the clickable page links start at -1, and includes zero, then 1,2, and 3. So for instance if I'm on page 5, and wish to refer to page 4..clicking on the second highest value in the list ([2]) does not send me to the immediately preceding page, it sends me to page 2. Looks like a whoopsie to me.
I've been puzzled by that, too. It also seems to show up inconsistently. If I remember right, you can access a thread and see it, then the next time you get in it's back to the regular page numbers.

This has been complained about before - like right after the latest alleged "upgrade" a year or so ago - by at least Carl/ CShaveRR, IIRC.
I had some time to kill, so I looked back through a bunch of posts, and I think I see a pattern. When responses hit 120 and starts the fifth page, it switches to this format. It seems reasonable at 7 pages and more, but at 5 pages it fills in the left side with "-1" and "0", and at six pages it fills the left side with "0". At 7 pages this garbage is shifted out. What does all this mean? I have no idea.

It means some programmer didn't do their job properly!

I am reminded of two adages:
To err is human, to really foul things up requires a computer.
And the one I thought up in my 45 years as a programmer:
Computers are neither smart nor dumb; they're just plain MEAN!
