At Bowman, a car was on #1 track but that was not due to the ice storm.  Just bad driving!!!  The Union Pacific dispatcher was notified by the local police until the car was removed.   The hail storm did not cause any UP trains to be delayed.

Much like the Post Office, the Union Pacific runs in snow, hail, rain and most other conditions except rock slides and washouts.

The CHP will shut down a road for any weather that might be difficult for California drivers to handle.

Lately I am inclined to include bright sunny days in that category.

On the other hand, in our very unusual two days of rain down here last weekend, I noticed folks actually slowing down on the freeway during the rain.  Maybe it was the time warp aspect of rain in July that had them confused.

FRA glazing is tough enough to withstand hail that would shatter most automobile windshields. I think open loads might be the only thing to worry about.

Can't think of any reason it should.  The CHP will shut down a road for any weather that might be difficult for California drivers to handle.  UP won't shut down, or even slow down, for anything that pilot plows can handle.
