Even if it was full there may still have been no leakage.  The local media and authorities no doubt would have shown more hype though.

Local news from Binghamton, NY said 8 cars out of a 100 car train were off the tracks in Marathon, NY. All but 2 stayed upright. No hazmat, no fire, no evacuations. Only photo I've seen showed a construction debris car off the tracks.
No explosion, no fire, no hazmat, no mass evacuation -- no media interest in something to sensationalize out of all proportion.

I would not be quite so quick to dismiss it as trivial.

This car was said to be used to transport diesel fuel, but was empty at the time of the accident.  Might have been different if full.  I may be mistaken, but I think there was some luck involved.

I didn't see anything in the Trains News Wire about this.  Does anyone have any information on the NYS&W accident in Marathon, NY on May 28?
