Forgot to mention on Wed. April 22 on the Chilli at 7:30 AM a Track inspector was on Main 1East Bound. The Flags were posted at M.P.59.77 Carbon Hill Road Coal City IL. The derail possibly happened between MP 59.77 and  MP 58.62 Broadway St. Coal City. Last night I saw the inspection crew at Pequot MP 57.2 in Coal City.

Was taking pitures on the chilli last night at around 7 PM in Coal City il. A BNSF track inspection team was working on Main 1 West bound, they could have been looking at the repair. Wed. Morning on the chilli at Carbon Hill Road Coal City BNSF had posted flags facing East Bound traffic and 4 BNSF  trucks were there. When the East bound loco approched it was a reduced speed and the bell was clanging away. They do not have any defect detectors on the strech of road i hang out at. This morning a East bound at Carbon hill road was tied down for awahile on main 2  and then powered on at a slow speed, No one on Main 1 at the time.

It didn't bleed - so it didn't lead!

Dave, your post validated my semi-educated guess.  It's only news if the emergency response includes an ambulance...

My totally uninformed guess was that it was probably a one axle derailment that didn't spill or ignite anything.  Seems I didn't miss by much.

I asked my friend Dave Jordan (who seems to know about all things rail in central Illinois) about the Chillicothe derailment that Jim heard about on his scanner and here is his reply

Dave Nelson:

From Dan Tracy on the BNSF Chillicothe Sub Facebook group: "Heard something about pulling a drawbar and derailing one truck on the following car and tearing up a little track. It only fouled one track."

A derailment that doesn't make the news can only be positive in that sense--it still could be serious enough to disrupt the service and cause railroad chatter.

Yesterday there was a UP derailment along our main line around Wheaton or Winfield, serious enough to disrupt at least one scoot (the Metra service update was the only reason I knew about it).  It didn't make any news reports or even the railfan sites I frequent, so it probably wasn't worth going to, even if we were home.

But that fatal accident article is dated Feb. 22 and Jim heard the scanner chatter on Tuesday - two months after.  Plus Williamsfield is a ways away from Chillicothe.

This afternoon while at Eola and listening to my scanner I kept hearing chatter about a derailment on BNSF at Chillacothe, IL.  Does anybody know any more?
