Anyone knows of the fate of the soo line 371 that was part of the defunked Minnesota western railroad museum? Two weeks ago I drove by Don Linds place just to see what was left and I saw it sitting by the edge of the property. I never knew he had that or more than what you saw from highway 55
From what I understand all that was there was 371's cab. The frame and most of the rest were scrapped.
Wallace Abbey's "The Little Jewel" tells the story of Soo's four RSC2s in the early 1960s, when 368 and 369 were traded in to Alco for the pair of RS27s. 368 and 369 had just been overhauled, so the local shop forces quietly swapped numbers with 370 and 371 and sent THEM to Alco instead - with some fresh paint on the cab covering over the duplicate numbers.
