All,
Follow the link below to a collection of my railroad portraits, from 17 states – both standard and narrow gauge.
All of these are staged shots, using only ambient and/or natural light.

Matthew:
Just skimmed through the slide show. Not enough time to really study them right now. Thoroughly enjoyed the show, and the subjects are terrific. I am personally a sucker for b&W studies of faces. The color shots are great as well. Nice JOB! Thanks, for sharing them here.
[EDIT to add] So far #1 and #10 NICE!
Haven't gone through them all yet, but OOOOOOOHHHHHHH those I've seen are GOOD!
You nailed it man, railroading ain't just machines, it's people as well!
Have to spend an evening looking at those shots. Well done Maestro!
Very nice! I even know the engineer in image #9.

Very nice - well-done photos, lots of period 'atmosphere' in most of them. Thanks for sharing !!!

P.S. - Quite evidently you don't follow the "Steve Glischinksi doctrine" of only train photos with no crew or other people in them - which is a good thing, as you've so capably illustrated why they should be included. - PDN.
Wonderful set of images. Each does a great job of telling a story. Very nicely done.

Only FIVE posts on this? Isn't anyone else looking? Those shots are so good there should be 100 congratulatory posts by now!
People who haven't looked don't know what they've missed.
I thank you all for your compliments in regards to my photography. All just a hobby, but it remains something I very passion with. I have done a lot of work with female models, which has taught me so much with the camera in hand, and in Photoshop afterwards. I've applied a lot of this knowledge and experience to my railroad photography, including images like these which feature the men, women, and children who enjoy the machines. I find the greatest challenge is making the person in front of the camera feel and look relaxed. Body language and expression can make or break the shot, acheiving that connection between the model and the photographer, and ultimately the viewer, has taken a lot of practice and persistence on my behalf. To me its the human element that tells the story; the interaction of man and machine continues to peak my interest the most. Best, Matthew
