Two Denver Union Station Shots
Posted by CopCarSS on Monday, March 9, 2015 9:17 AM

Hey gang,

I spent part of last night wandering around LoDo around the time when the CZ was arriving. I came home with a few nice shots, including these two of DUS:

I still haven't got everything just the way I want it on the CZ arrival shot. I'm looking for it to be timed with blue hour and with all of the neon lit on the station. One of these nights...

As always, C&C more than welcome!

Chris, interesting shots, as usual.

I like the "island of tradition" in the first image, with the venerable Union Station building nestled into the surrounding "modern" architecture of the city, saying maybe, "Hey! Don't forget about me!"

The CZ arrival shot gives me mixed feelings, some conciding with what you are alluding to about "blue hour" being better but others thinking that the pitch-black sky area actually works to set a dramatic and interesting mood, maybe in the style of James Wong Howe in one of his film noir classics.

Thanks, Robert and Chuck!

Chuck - I guess I've always preferred the balanced look of blue hour for my "night shots." But you are definitely correct about a different feel to the images with the pitch black sky. Maybe it's something I need to investigate a bit further.

Nice pics! And the remodeled Union Station is gorgeous inside! But I hate the modern trainshed juxtaposed against the classic train station architecture.
