Congrats to all, this is the first forum topic we've locked in quite some time.
I am locking this because we've received several complaints before and after the past weekend. These complaints led us to a discussion that borders on religious discussion and describing individuals beliefs and values on non-railroad topics. Please, we don't want to go there.
Hope you have a great Monday.
Best,
Steve S.

I look at it as I did judges' instructions when I was on jury duty. The defendant's not required to testify, and we can't hold his silence against him. I already mentioned, Lion doesn't have to post anything, and his silence doesn't say one way or another about his thoughts on this thread, and neither should his participation in other threads.

Firelock76Boys, let me suggest we drop this for the time being. If Brother Lion responds, fine. If he doesn't so be it. End of story and thread.
I find it interesting and perhaps notable that Brother Lion responded (civilly, and at length) to the trackrat888 post about senior-citizen subsidies over in Transit -- but has said nothing here so far.
selector Mookie ruderunner BTW for my own info, what would be a good generic term for nuns/preists/monks etc? People.... A+

trackrat888 Oh Brother.
Oh Brother.
Anyway I really envy Lion and wish I could drop everything and join the monks up there in North Dakota. I would devote my time to writing railfan books and even starting a narrow gauge railroad on the grounds on the Monastary.
gardendance What does the T in Raymond T mean? Is it Trackrat? I never remember getting his last name. How did you?

Dakota, in my case Ray came to see me, so I lean towards he gets around a lot. He declared himself to be a hobo, traveling the country relying on the kindness of strangers.
As far as I can glean from trains.com fora I'm the only one who's admitted to meeting him in person.
Raymond T. seems to have a wide geographical acquaintance on here. Does he get around so much, or do some of our other posters like to indulge an occasional walk on the wild side?
or as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Stand_with_Dick_Dietrick would say, "people, people".
I just noticed somebody edited the thread's title to say "in a", but monastery's spelled wrong. If trackrat did it I have to hand it to him, because I haven't been able to figure how to edit my threads' titles.
schlimm trackrat888 is just the latest alias of Raymond T., who has been booted off this forum many, many times under his numerous (13+) aliases, such as, but not limited to: Polish Falcon, OhioRiver Trail, Train Finder22, etc. He has had numerous arrests and has serious mental health problems. But if you want to make light of all that, do so at your own peril.

schlimm, either present evidence that shows your statement's not an opinion, or please phrase it as an opinion. How do you know that he's been arrested?
I'm pretty sure whatever peril I may face in the future from him is very minor. I intend never to meet him in person again, so unless he goes to the effort to come to my house or work he's no more perilous to me than many of my neighbors or people whom I pass on the street every day. Against what peril are you trying to warn us trains.com participants?

I take mild offense to that. Since I primarily post on the weekends does that make me a troll?
Not really offended but just to point out that timing of posts is no indication of trolling.
That said, there's all sorts of people in the world, and noone has to like everybody. So Trackrat can be offbeat but then if all the threads were the same and nobody had a differng opinion or perspective, how exciting would this site be?
I can't believe the backlash that this thread has started. Why even? Is it perhaps just due to the OP name? Or maybe that he paged Lion directly (rather than some blanket term for those working in religion)?
Murphy Siding True to form, Mr. Troll won't be able to respond until the library opens tommorrow. In a nutshell, the best thing to do is to let the moderators know what's on your mind. Click the report abuse button and tell them if there's a problem. To make it easier on them, tell them which forum, which thread, which poster, the day and time of the post, and how it violates the forum policies. For some reason, the report abuse function doesn't give that info to the moderators. In general, the mods aren't reading through the various forums looking for problmes, so unless someone lets them know, they are oblivious to it. Alos, Mr. Troll's M.O. is to start things on the weekend, when the mods are not at work, and generally not on the forums at all.

Yes indeed. His choice of topics, writing style, and spelling leave no doubt all those aliases are one and the same troll.
As Murphy pointed out, the weekend is the best time for him to post as the moderators have other jobs that limit their available time on the forum and are looking forward to a peaceful weekend like everyone else.

ruderunnerAnd to think that someone may have learned something from this thread. I for one never would have thought a railroad would have used religion to sell to passengers. Way to go T&P. See,Trackrat isn't completely useless...
I agree. Even though trackrat didn't originate it, without his thread, and our feeding the troll, it's possible we might never have gotten to see those intriguing Texas and Pacific advertisements wanswheel supplied. That's one reason why no matter how much I might dislike someone personally and disagree with their posting style I hope I never express any desire that they not be allowed to post.
dakotafred I'd be honestly interested to learn how we ascertain that, for example, Ohio River Trail = Polish Falcon = Track Rat. Granted, posters often have stylistic or behavioral quirks that might lead us to venture an identification. But is that solid-enough evidence for identifying someone positively as one we've seen before under a different name -- and a troll at that? Plus, we should remember there are all levels of verbal competence and intelligence on here -- and that they're not always even the same thing! The last thing we need, in my opinion, is more policing by our moderators to weed out the close calls. I think we posters are plenty quick to blow the whistle on our own, and to marginalize "bad" posts when they show up.

I had already at least twice posted this information, and had used the abuse button to tell the moderators. Ohiorivertrails had sent me private messages concerning rides on my yacht to photograph the Delair bridge from the river. Mid July 2014 he came in person to my yacht club and I took him on the sailboat.
Jan 28 2015 trackrat888 sent me a friend request in which he described enough of the sailing trip to convince me that he's really ohiorivertrails.
I'm not familiar enough with Polish Falcon to say one way or another if we're talking about a trinity.
Notice that I said I did report to the moderators. I stick to my above statement that I am not trying to say he not be allowed to post, and I didn't phrase my abuse post that way. I just presented the facts. I think there's a difference between letting the authorities know the truth vs telling the authorities what they should do with that info.

Norm48327 Firelock76 Boys, let me suggest we drop this for the time being. If Brother Lion responds, fine. If he doesn't so be it. End of story and thread. Just trying to keep the peace here. "Blessed are the peacemakers..." WHOOPS! Sorry, didn't mean to interject religion here, much less the Beatitudes. I believe it was Sam Colt who said that.

I have noticed that a troll(s) always starts out as asking fairly reasonable questions. Usually several at one time. Then a spell of silence from the OP. Then at least one starts unraveling a little around the edges with less relevant and more inflaming remarks from the OP. If let go long enough, the threads deteriorate into swearing, ranting postings until they are moderated off the forum.
trackrat888 Honest question....
Honest question....
And I totally agree with Norm and Murphy, with the addition of item #7 from the Trains Forum Terms of Use:
This entire thread is a violation of those forum rules. Whether or not Broadway Lion takes personal offense is not the issue. Many religious folks may well find some of the posts offensive.
As to "Dr D": I would caution you on your use of the derogatory term "Gomer": Terms of Use #2: No personal attacks or name-calling.
Dr D Schlimm, Allow me to retort! You Gomer with 5,800 posts who allows you to pass judgment on trackrat888 and the rest of us? And cast aspersions on other people and their motives for writing followed by your hip shot psychological assessment! Grow up from your vindictive character assassination. You could at least reply to what you don't like with a counter or opposite opinion if you have one. Get a life! Doc

I'm going to have to side with schlimm on this. Trackrat 888 has been known to post political, religious, and other topics prohibited by forum terms of service under several aliases. Aliases have included Polish Falcon and Ohio River Trail. You can find some of his past work if you're willing to search for it.
