I continue to be - amazed - perplexed - saddened - (you add yours) that we have these non-serious threads about things that have absolutely no prospect of happening.

Forums are for fun, I am perplexed that you are taking this one serious.

Every time I mention trolls everyone has a fit, so I won't mention it...

I kind of doubt that I'd vote for him.

While it would be nice to have someone with railroad experience in the USDOT for over all policy directions, other positions could be problamatic.

I'm not sure that I'd want to see him as FRA administrator.  There's already a feeling among some that the FRA is the railroad's lap dog.  (I'm sure the railroads feel that the FRA is too sympathetic to other parties, causing them to spend money on things they don't want to.  Truth is, they are really neutral on most things, no one's friend or enemy.)  It might appear along the lines of putting the mice in charge of the cheese.

I have no idea what his pay stub shows, but he would take a major reduction in pay if he accepted an appointment in the "snakepit" Employees in the Executive Branch cannot be paid more than a Member of Congress, currently $175,000 peryear, which helps explain why  poor top management and corruption are common in the Federal Government. They're not in it for the money, it's power that they crave

The worthiness of this topic, and of the thought that went into it, is reflected in the spelling in its title and body.

Suppose Rose believed he was in line, or at least in contention, for Warren Buffett's job.  Do you think he would give that up for a fancy title in the Washington swamp?   I know what my decision would be in the same circumstances.

"+1"

The only positions that I think might be satisfying to him, and good for us (railroads, railfans, and the nation) - i.e., the power to accomplish more good than at BNSF - is either FRA Administrator, or a high-level Director in the DOT, such one for either rail and/ or trucking (he was a truck company or intermodal executive earlier in his career, IIRC).

But he'd be crazy to get into the snakepit that is Washington politics . . . Sigh
