Louisiana Eastern & other Louisiana RR's: info
Posted by caboose63 on Friday, January 30, 2015 2:01 PM

I came across some of my old issues of Railroad magazine from the 1950's to late 1968s. Came across one issue which told of impending demise of sand-gravel hauling shortline Louisiana Eastern at Shiloh, LA. Can anybody tell me about the Louisiana Eastern's line at Amite, LA? The Amite line is  listed in my 1978 American Shortline Railway Guide as having been abandoned in 1974. According to my June 1968 issue of Railroad, the Louisiana Eastern was using 1  whitcomb 30 tonner,  2 GE 65 tonners, 1 Plymouth 80 tonner and GM (1940) SW1. I am interested in commodities hauled by Louisiana Eastern's Amite operation and other Louisiana shortlines. Shortlines i am interested in are Feliciana Eastern Louisiana Midland, Louisiana Southern (original one) Natchez, Urania & Ruston, Red River & Gulf,  Mansfield Railway, and South Shore Railway ( the one in LA, not in Indiana). On the Flip side i have locomotive rosters for all of the above shortlines (except Red River & Gulf) for June 1968.
