Sorry, Ms. Angela, but I don't have a Facebook account, don't want a Facebook account, and don't need a Facebook account. If this precludes me from voting in the "Best Cover" contest then that's the way it will have to be.
If this makes me a dinosaur out of step with this new electronic age, well so be it.

I'm not a fan of facebook either. And I don' t like that so many contests want facebook logins.

I agree that Facebook has enough privacy concerns that I have no interest in ever establishing an account with them. And when your third-party company says that it "needs" Facebook's credentials for their login—well that reflects a certain laziness and poor software development skills on their part. I'm very sorry that Kalmbach has chosen to employ them.
A fair contest that is available to everyone who subscribes to your publications should not require a Facebook account, plain and simple. I hope you'll look around online more closely (the stories of Facebook data misuse are plentiful) and reconsider, at least before you start any other contest or poll.
"It's really easy" should never be used in the same sentence as a "Facebook account." And you should familiarize yourself with what cookies and other tracking Facebook does with people who use that login to enter your contests. It's kind of creepy, to say the least.

The contest is hosted through a third-party software company. We need to keep track of votes, comments, etc., and in order for the contest software to do that, they have to be able to keep their own tally. We plan on hosting other contests in the future, and the login for the contests won't change. Once you register, you will be able to log in to any of our other photo contests. It's really easy to login with a Facebook account. And, the registration page only has a few required fields. Thanks for your interest!
There seems to be an anti-Facebook rebellion brewing. I guess that I would count myself as part of that, but my reading of the form seems to give the option of Facebook OR an alternate account set-up. Maybe we're just a bunch of old guys that like to complain.
So is there a second choice? My reading is that there is an alternate that is not related to Facebook in any way. I any case, Ms. Angela, to clarify, do we or do we not (channeling Perry Mason) need to sign up with Facebook to vote?

Alas, this is consistent with the general skill and awareness level I seem to be seeing from the "IT department" at Kalmbach recently.
It's perfectly obvious why the 'third-party company' requires a Facebook account: they're doing information-harvesting for marketing purposes. And as I think Lucius Beebe once said, "I shall not be there."
Since I believe there are polling features built right into the software package the Forum uses, there can't be any legitimate reason to utilize a third party 'anything' to figure out what the most popular cover or whatever is. On the other hand, from what I have seen of IT's ability to program the Forum software, perhaps they don't know their own strength, as Bullwinkle would say.
For privacy concerns I also refuse to have a Facebook account so I guess I will not be voting.
