It was just east of Peoria St. on Sangamon Ave. on the north side of town.  Take the Sangamon Ave. exit off I-55. Head west.

The Amtrak station downtown is interesting.

Also, if you haven't been there, the Lincoln library (not far from the station) is fantastic.  Absolutely a must see.

Springfield, IL railfan spots?
Posted by eolafan on Sunday, January 11, 2015 10:05 AM

Good morning.  I am driving to Sprigfield this week and would like to visit the spot where the old Rideley tower used to stand...can anybody tell me the exact location of that spot so I can use my GPS to get there?  Also, if anybody can recommend any other good spots in Springfield I'd appreciate it as well.  Thanks!
