FEC trains through Ft. Pierce?
Posted by The Railwolf on Sunday, November 3, 2013 6:47 PM
Does anyone have a list of Florida East Coast Railway trains that pass through Fort Pierce, FL? I have tried several times to decipher the timetables on the FEC website, with no luck. I visit Fort Pierce on a semi-regular basis and love to watch the FEC run, but more often than not I end up sitting and sitting with no catches. I realize most of the traffic here is at night; I'm hoping for a listing of trains through here by day of the week and time of night/day. Thanks!

The important thing to remember is that the timetable is written in military time instead of AM and PM. So train 123 leaves Jax for Ft Pierce at 18:00 hours or 6:00 PM to the rest of us. Because 18:00 - 12:00 = 6:00 PM. It arrives the following day in Ft Pierce at 11:00 AM. Actually earlier than that because it says the train must be available to consignees to pick up their containers. From 00:00 to 12:00 is AM. From 12:00 to 24:00 (or midnight) is PM.

The issue I'm having isn't that I'm unfamiliar with military time; it's that without math and guesstimation, I can't really tell when a train will pass through Ft. Pierce. I'm also not sure what terms like 'destination availability' mean. Most of the trains pass Ft. Pierce, rather than stopping there, of course.

I am fairly certain that "destination availability" means the time that a container is available to be picked up by the consignee. The railroad has to get the train in the yard and get the containers off, then the consignee can send a driver to the yard to pick up his container after the time shown on the timetable.
