I went to google maps and used the street view from the road on the west side. It looks like a concrete pad with a fence around it. Inside appears to be 55 gallon drums and some sort of fabric bags. Probably a hazardous chem storage area or something like that.

Thanks to watching a rerun an old B&W "Gunsmoke", where a woman wants to go to Ft. Wallace, KS, I found another roundhouse footprint.  I just wanted to see if there really was a Fort Wallace.

TV lead me to another site... 'Antiques Roadshow' had a 1930's poster advertising vacationing in Dunkerque and I wanted to see what it was like.  Used Google Earth and started following RR lines and found:

Longueau, France, working RH and TT @ 49°52'19.93"N   2°20'53.84"E

I was just looking around those parts last week. It's one of those "holes" in the map where something should just be... and there it was, but I didn't see it. Geeked

There's one in KS, Sharon Springs, the town just to the west of that.

Updated the files to the latest additions and I managed to upload them to my webspace (even though most of the other users of that system are locked out of their space!).

I have compressed all 5 files into one ZIP file so MAYBE everybody can download them all in one swell foop.

http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/sempervaporo/Trainsdotcom/RR%20Roundhouses.zip

That should get you all 5 files at once for you to Un-ZIP.

Here are links to the individual files:

Excel file of all the data:

http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/sempervaporo/Trainsdotcom/Roundhouse%20and%20Turntables.xls

PDF of the Non-U.S. locations:

http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/sempervaporo/Trainsdotcom/Non%20US%20Roundhouses%20and%20Turntables.pdf

PDF of the U.S. locations:

http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/sempervaporo/Trainsdotcom/US%20Roundhouses%20and%20Turntables.pdf

Unfortunately, I am still unable to download the KMZ files so I have left the links out of this posting.  You will get them in the ZIP file.

Here are two turntables/roundhouses in Germany:

Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck

51° 32'23.3" N 7°07'13.5" E

(preserved; steam locos in regular service stationed there until 1977)

Bochum-Dahlhausen

51°25'57.0" N 7°07'29.3" E

Railway museum that runs steam trains in summer

The interleaved turntables you found in Hamburg-Altona and their roundhouses that formed almost a closed circle (total of 57 stands) were demolished in 1982 (RH) and 2000 (TT). You can find lots of pictures in Wikipedia; search for "bahnbetriebswerk hamburg-altona"

Another Roundhouse in Germany:

Rheine

52°14'57.8"N 7°27'32.6"E

base for oil-fired steam locos until 1977 (on the last German mainline worked exclusively by steam). Tracks and turntable removed in 1983; roundhouse derelict and will probably be demolished soon.

Looks like you have many that I don't.  I would like to blend your list into mine, if you would send me either a KMZ file exported from Google Earth or whatever other format you might have.  I will start a back-channel conversation with you via this site's Messages system, so we can pick a method of sharing your files with me.  Thank you very much for your offer!

LokshuppenGER: Thanks for the list... sorry I have not gotten back to you sooner to say so.  I am still working my way through it, adding the new ones to my list...

WHEW!  I thought I already had a lot in my list for Germany (76) and figured your list would have lots and lots of duplicates of mine... Well... there are a FEW duplicates so far, but not many.  I am astounded at how many turntables and roundhouses there are in Germany!  Wow!  So far I have an additional: 217 and I have about another 30 to look through.

To everybody else... his list is more extensive than mine.  It includes shop buildings and other items that I am not adding to my list.  He also separated his list to show roundhouses and turntables as individual items (my list has one entry for a turntable and has a notation when there is also evidence of a roundhouse associated with it).  This makes his list much larger than mine, but gives the ability to distinguish between them.  I sort of wish I had started with separate entries, but I am way too far invested in my list to go back through it separating them.

Again, LokshuppenGER, Thank you for sharing your list!

I will finish adding things to mine and then update the files on-line for everyone else.

Here it is: Roundhouses / Depots & Turntables / Transfer Tables v1.020.20170124.kmz including Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, (Germany), Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia (incl. asian part), Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine I change naming scheme to Continent (german - english) > Country (german - english) > [State (german - english)] > City (original name - german - english) It's possible that only the german city name is in brackets (original and english name is the same) or the english one (original and german name is the same). You have to check it yourself what the correct name you need is. http://www104.zippyshare.com/v/L7nMQW5J/file.html PS Semper Vaporo: There are some issues with some german city names in your list. I'll give you soon a list what you have to change. I have to thank you (and all others) too for publishing a list of US roundhouses / turntables. Thats why i decided to register here. Its all about giving and receiving... :)

Sorry... I am unable to download your latest link.  It keeps trying to install a different browser... I tried several times.  The last time the whole system went nutz telling me I had a serious virus and that Microsoft was going to disable my PC if I didn't call them right away... no way to get out of the loop it was stuck in...

I KNOW BETTER THAN TO FALL FOR THAT SCAM.

I got my PC shut down and all is perfectly fine with it... that is an OLD SCAM that has been around for ages.  I will not fall for it and i sure hope nobody else falls for it either!

I think you should find a different storage service than what you are using.

I am still working on transcribing the new "non-U.S." list LokshuppenGER provided.

Just the last week or so, Google Earth has become very sluggish.  Takes 10 to 20 seconds to load images as I zoom in and out to view each site as I add them.  It seems to be associated with the network response time in fetching the photo images of the earth.  Moving items in the lists is still as fast (or slow, depending on your viewpoint!) as it ever was, but shifting to a new location occurs as fast as always, but then all I have is a blurry image for 10 seconds before the images begin download.

I don't know what happened.  I have not made any changes to my setup (that I know of).  It might be a problem with something MS did in an update to Winders or maybe G.E. had an update that screwed-up something, or something has been corrupted on my system.  But it is a real PAIN to work with GE now.

I will keep working at it, but it is now a VERY slow process. Super Angry
