Fostoria Railroad Park
Posted by SWChicagoRailfan on Sunday, June 12, 2011 9:17 PM

I discovered the Fostoria rail cam today and I'm digging it even though the picture isn't that great. I wish Rochelle's was more like this. Anyways, does anybody know where the Fostoria Railroad Park is in the building process? has it even started? I heard the 1st phase was to be completed in 2011 but info on updates seems to be few and far between. I definitely would like to visit this area one day soon.

Land has been cleared; things are planned. Beyond that I know nothing.

Nothing, that is, except for the fact that if you're waiting for a park to be finished before you pay the place a visit, you're missing out.  Go as soon as you can--there are plenty of grade crossings from which to watch plenty of trains!  Then, if and when a park is completed, go again, with memories of "before" to compare it to.

Agreed. I will be going before the end of the summer. I might rent an RV...anybody know of any good campgrounds in the area?

Thanks Carl, that worked just fine...I have to agree with the sentiments of others that the Fostoria webcam with it's ability to go "full screen", along with the view and the "live sound" mic is a far superior webcam installation and experience to that on the TRAINS site, although I do enjoy our TRAINS webcam it obviously could be improved greatly (with all due respect and appreciation).

I was just at Fostoria for the first time a couple of days ago (16-17 June 2011) for ~ 18 hours. A great location. No physical progress on the rail park. All that exists at the proposed location is a picnic table and a recently serviced porta-john. The old buildings have been torn down so that you can get a clear field of view of all three lines. Still a lot of places to sit to view all/most of the action.  There is a parking lot to the north of the old B&O station near the Rail bar (location of the web-cam) and the wireless internet signal is strong enough to tap into. I was first exposed to ATCS by a couple of gentlemen from Indianapolis while sitting in the lot and they were using the internet connection from the Rail bar. I am not sure if the new rail park will have any internet access. The entire town seems to support rail-fans (pizza joint, hotel and even the police as long as you stay within the designated areas). The local CofC has a pamphlet that shows the public access areas.

I am DEFINITELY bringing my laptop for some ATCS action. I purchased a car charger so I don't have to worry about the battery dying.
