I learned tonight that my grandpa on my Dads side worked for Alco in Schenectady,NY installing headlights on locos for awhile. This is of great importance to me and probably no one else'cept maybe another Alco fan. My Dad also told me a story of his Dad getting 'trapped ' for 24 hours inside a steam loco's 'fire-box'? (I know nothing about steam) as a kid and was lucky to have his life. We pulled-up an ALCO web-site and had a lot of great conversation about a legendary locomotive company and a history I never knew about my Dads Dad.
My Dad asked me if he could come over tonight because he doesn't get ESPN and wanted to catch the Detroit game and being caught off-gaurd I said 'ok'.Me being adopted and not adhering to the same lifestyle has caused problems- this was the first time ever that my Dad asked to come over.So what I think I'm saying is ,though I dreaded the evening, when it came - I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome and it was trains that brought us just a little closer together.
Never really cared for ALCO but I guess it's in my 'blood'! (adopted anyway!)
