How often do you actually see people riding the freight trains now?
I haven't seen anyone for about 5 years now.
The last ones I saw were 2 Native Americans riding a westbound BNSF grain train in eastern Montana on the ex-GN! I remember passing this train (which was doing about 60 MPH) and telling my mom, "Hey, there were people riding on one of those grain cars"! So we went ahead of the train a little farther so we would have time to pull off the road and wait for the train. When the car came by we started to pace it and there were 2 Natives riding under the end overhang of a PS grain hopper reading books. That was probably a pretty good spot to stay dry as it was raining slightly. If I would have been older and had the RR Police phone numbers I would have called them to let them know of their passengers; the RR Bull could have intercepted them up east of Havre, MT (about 100 miles west of the train).
