Too bad! I took a great trip from Piedra Negras (Tx.) to Guadalajara via Mexico City (2 weeks) 1998. I had a bedroom on an aging pullman smooth side (former B. & O.). It was comfortable and the scenery on the Guadalajara-Mexico City leg was great. Food was a problem because just 2 months before my trip, NDM discontinued dining car service. The meals were catered for first class and there was no choice from a menu (mystery meat). I soon learned to hop-off and grab a bite "to go." Still the trip was great...sorry to hear it's all history.

THANKS FOR REPLIES--WE MADE SOME AWESOME TRIPS IN MID-70'S ON NDM AND CPFC. WAS THINKING OF TRYING TO REPEAT-BUT COULD FIND NO INFO BUT THE SUPER EXPENSIVE COPPER CANYON TOURS.
WE DID IT ON REGULAR SCHEDULE WITH THREE ADULTS-2KIDS-INCLUDING-HILTON HOTEL-SIDE TRIPS-TWO OR THREE NIGHTS AND I THINK IT
WAS ABOUT $400 FOR ALL OF US.
IT IS JUST HARD TO IMAGINE THE LACK OF PASSENGER SERVICE GIVEN THE REMOTENESS OF SOME AREAS.
YES I REALIZE FOLKS ARE ON THE MOVE-I'M FROM A MOUNTAIN TOWN IN S.C. WITH LITTLE INDUSTRY LEFT AND NOT MUCH FARMING.LAST TIME I WENT HOME THERE WERE FIVE SPANISH CHURCHES AND THREE BUSINESS ON MAIN ST.-NOT ONLY HAS THE TOWN CHANGED BUT A BIG
LUMP IN MY THROAT AS THE TRESTLE-RAILROAD STATION AND HAUNTS
I PLAYED AS A KID-ALL GONE.
IF ANYBODY DOES HAVE ANY MORE INFO-WILL GREATLY APPRECIATE IT.

There aren't many potential passengers now, as most of Mexico is busy moving somewhere else.

....Yes, there was some mention of passenger service in a past issue probably late in 2003...not sure, as we all know time gets away from us pretty fast.

Most of Mexico's Railroad system has been sold to private operators such as KCS or Union Pacific. Trains carried an article about the Mexican Railroads in one of its recent issues. Passenger service wasn' t mentioned in that article, and I don't remember when, or if, anything was ever published about the demise of of rail passenger service in Mexico.
