While driving from Spokane to Portland I followed (then passed) six flat bed trailers with Union Pacific on the side. There were two heavy duty flat beds and four regular flat bed trailers. Two of the trucks had mounted cranes. I saw them first on I90 and then again in the TriCities - I lost them before the Oregon border so I don't know where they ended up. My first thought was that there was a derailment and this was part of the cleanup crew. I also noticed that there were several eastbound trains stopped just east of Boardman and a BNSF coal train going westbound just west of Boardman - I suspect it was heading for the coal fired powerplant there - again it was moving much slower than I was. The further I got into the gorge I spotted more stopped eastbound trains. By the time I reached The Dalles the eastbounds were starting to move. I also saw several CN powered trains hauling strings of grain cars. I thought I read somewhere that CN was calling out the Act of God clause to get out of hauling contracts.
So- does anyone know where the six semis were going??

Randy
