How to include a photo in a post

First, you need to have a photo uploaded to a website that allows remote linking. Many of the free website places like geocities, angelfire, etc. don't allow this, as far as I know. I use my own webspace on one of the several domains I own; if you ISP offers webspace, chances are you can use that.

Then, all you need to know is the web address of the photo, and you just put that in the post surrounded by [ img] [ /img] tags. (Eliminate the space after the first square brackets -- I had to add the spaces in so the tags would show up as text.)

So, for the picture I posted the other day, what I actually wrote looks like this:

[ img]http://www.departmentofmysteries.com/up001.jpg[ /img]

And it came out like this:



If you are in the "post new reply" page, there's also a little button in the "Format" section. It's right between the email envelope and the button with a # sign on it. That button will automatically insert the [ img] tags for you if you highlight the web address of the photo.

Unfortunately, you do need to have the photo already on the web; you can't use an image that is only on your computer. If anyone really really really wants to post a picture and can't find somewhere to host it, you can email it to me ([e-mail]) and I can put it online for you.

....Nora, thank you for doing a review of the mechanics of installing a photo on this forum. I really doubt that I'll be able to follow all of what you describe but that's my problem. And some time this week I must undo this computer and install a new one in it's place and I probably won't even know how to operate that very well for a while...[different op system], let alone try to do the photo installation...but appreciate you telling us how to accomplish it if we try. [:)]

Hell, I have never been able to understand why the keyboard isn't simply arranged in alphabetical sequence ! -- The numbers and the "F" keys are !

....I remember asking that question in typing class many years ago...and not sure of what answer I got but perhaps they're put in position of the way we use them...

The history channel said that a long time ago the newspaper unions had the keys on typewriters placed so that it took the longest amount of time to type any given word and they would get more money for the amount of work typers did. And it stuck. Imagine how fast we could type if the keys were placed efficiently.

....Note model cars in your bio locomutt....As evidenced from my handle I have some die cast examples around here, mostly 50's and some 60's and later. I suppose it is just a reflection of what we passed though...Most are very nicely detailed. Have a '57 die cast Corvette engine [fist size], on a stand...REALLY detailed and actually turns over, etc....But railroads are my interest as well....

Nope, nothing there.

My web host is MSN, and I've had problems on other forums. I got round this by not using the [ img] .. [ /img] inserts, but using < img src"...........">, and inserting the picture address where the dots are.

However this fix doesn't seem to work here. Any suggestions?
