Sixty Train Lines in one place - WOW!

This from KGW.COM (channel 8, Portland, OR) on the Nov. 15 collision of a UP train with a BNSF train 40 miles north of Portland:

"Sixty different train lines share the tracks along the stretch where the derailment occured, according to Burlington Northern officials."

They also made one reference to the track owners as the 'Santa Fe'.

Every single time the media reports on a railroad-related event, you can bet your booty they'll say something stupid.

Would that quote represent the number of TRAINS per day? I know the media doesn't have a clue when it comes to railroad subjects, but that could be considered an honest mistake.

As for the reference to "Santa Fe", I consider myself an astute railfan, but even I have trouble keeping up with the merger blitz! I gave up when D&RGW became part of Mega Pacific!. Next step: BNSFNS and UPCSX?

Yeah, you often find mistakes like that when reading things about trains written by non-railfans. "Coal car" instead of tender, "hook" instead of couple as well as referring to all freight cars as "boxcars". These people ought to do some better research before writing these things.

The public and media is so out of date with the railroads. Every new map i get still lists CSX lines as C&O and still lists NS lines as N&W and SOU. Usually when Amtrak trains derail they say " Amtrak's line was closed for several hours" despite the fact it's technicly "Amtrak's trackage rights".
