Yes, the Highway Lobby has much clout.....as do their friends, Big Auto and Big Oil. While they can no longer get away with any National City Lines scandals, other than that they may as well be God as far as the DOT is concerned. <br />You see, Big Auto isn't content that everyone wants a car anyways.....they want it to be the ONLY way. And Big Oil want$ thing$ a$ inneficient as po$$ible. Trains are too efficient. And any "funding" into alternate technologies is probably just a ruse.....Big Oil and Big Auto are happy with the way things are! Sadly, things are too similar up here in Canada.....even if VIA is in a better state than Amtrak <br /> <br />~Ra'akone
