Bridge, Viaduct - same thing or different?

As an aside, in shop class, they taught us that an engine generates its own energy (coal/oil/wood for steam engines, oil for diesel(electrics), where a motor is supplied energy from another source (electricity for trolleys,Little Joe's,GG1's,interurbans,boxcabs). <br /> <br />So is an SD45 locomotive both an engine and a motor?
