Capital and maintenance cost for steam support infrastructure dropped to nothing. Train crew size dropped dramatically also, but occurred over a longer period of time. What was the train crew size with triple headed steam? 10? <br />With three diesels? 2? <br /> <br />Romance aside, diesel electrics are superior to steam locomotives in every way.
