One of the concerns with the water stops was not just the impact on fuel consumption, but also on schedules, payroll, and available utilization of resources (i.e. keeping the mainline clear). <br /> <br />Of course, that last item could be addressed by having a siding available for watering stops, but again, at what cost? <br /> <br />And how does one keep a schedule when, instead of screaming along at 75 MPH, one's tenders are sitting under the water tower? <br /> <br />I would also be interested in knowing just how complex a beast the ACE3000 is, how much of that is workable vs. pipe dreams, and even with all the improvements, will it offset some of those additional costs?
