red flag conrail
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, May 15, 2001 8:58 PM
I was at a local ns yard and I saw a conrail with a red flag hanging out the window. The next day I went down there and the engine was gone. it was in the middle of 2 or 3 other engines. I was wondering what this red flag ment.

I don't know for sure, but the mere fact that the flag was red makes me think the engine was bad ordered for some reason and was definitely not operational.

bad order or non operational being fra dead or what not engines are tagged at the isolation switch on control panal. with reason and who and craft that killed the engine. the red flag is used as a marker for rear of train. or in most cases to prop the doors open. being this was in the window someone must have put it there did something and then forgot it. in anycase the engine left either the flag was moved or fell out.
