Amtrak Odd Sightings
Posted by eolafan on Monday, October 6, 2003 8:32 AM
Hope somebody can shed some light on these two strange sightings on Amtrak trains while railfanning in BNSF Eola yard (Aurora, IL) recently. The first was about a week back and was of what appeared to be a Rohr Turboliner power car (remember they had a few coach seats behind the cab/power assembly and also had trailing coaches and then another identical cab/power/coach unit trailing to eliminate turning at the other end and they ran in New York and from Chicago to St. Louis in the good old days). This was on the rear end of the westbound Chief. The second sighting was yesterday on the rear end of the eastbound Zephyr and was a USDOT car that was obviously an old Amtrak Metroliner cab car but without the pantograph on top but still with all the strobe and other lights and the horns in tact. These days you really never know what you're going to see on the Chief or the Zephyr around here. Jim, Aurora, IL

Don't know about that stuff, but having watched Amtrak considerably.........gasp in the seventies (as a kid) nothing on Amtrak really surprises me anymore.
