The JOYS of Railroading!!!

I was thinking about a "few" of my past experiences railroading up in central Iowa, and remembered stumbling into several awesome opportunites. There were two that come to mind: 1) My dad and I were by the tracks near Boone, when a man in a news van for the big tv station in Des Moines pulled up. He got out and started talking to us. He had scanners and everything. He had an awesome set up that was perfect for train chasing. He gave us the schedule for trains coming through town for the next 24-hour period. This was when the CNW engines were becoming few and far between. On the list was two trains that were going to have CNW Operation Lifesaver Decals(they were AC4400's, only 35 made for the CNW). Thanks to him, he got us several photo oportunities of these engines! 2) Another, that started by the tracks moved to a little airstrip in Boone. We were following a train into town, when overhead, a P-51 mustang was flying overhead! It's engine was roaring and he was flying pretty aggressively with it. We went to the airstrip which was about a 1/4 mile from the tracks. We saw him land, and take off again! It was one of the most incredible sights I have ever seen! We even got to pu***he plane into the hanger for him! Chasing that train paid off in several ways! Good things come from spending time by the tracks! I was just wondering if you railfans have had any experiences that came as a result of train watching, etc...?
