What type of video camera do you use?
Posted by rf16a on Saturday, August 30, 2003 6:21 PM
I'm looking for advice from fellow rail fans regarding video cameras.
What type of video camera do you use for railfanning?
For taking video outdoors as well as for indoor use such as museums and model railroads?
What format do you use? Vhs, vhs-c, 8mm, hi-8, digital?
I'm interested in what your actual experiences, good or bad, have been with equipment that you have actually used.
Thanks![:)]

I only intended this question to be about what type of camera people like. I did not intend to spark a debate over the "right" to video/photograph.
Perhaps changing the wording of the subject line from the general "video cameras" to the more specific "what type of video camera do you use" will help.

Let me advise you that no matter what you do with a video camera it wont go over good with some railroaders. ( me for 1) as these can be used by railroad officials to fire a crew. I know we have went over this before on this forum but i have the right not to have my picture not taken.more so than your right to take one. I know that there are some that will say well if you work by the rules you shouldnt worry or care if someone takes your picture. and this is true. but if i am caught smoking on the engine that is a rule violation. what if i take my glasses of to rub my eyes and you take the pic with my glasses off. rule violation.. simple things like this can cause a man his lively hood.

simple read what i wrote and it exsplains everything. also some people dont like having their pick taken at all. it has nothing to do with security, it has to do with jobs. like i said a rule violation cought on tape or film isnt good.

I use a JVC digital video camera. It also does digital still photo's as well.
I understand what Wabash is saying, but in my defense, my video taking is for my personal
use only. I'm not out to get people fired. The people who see the video I take are not out to get anyone fired nor would they go out of there way to do so. We all have jobs, jobs that pay our mortgages, car payments etc. Who hasn't oops on the job before? My freinds are railfans as well. We want to see trains run. Not get people fired.

Just my 2 cents
