Question re NS route

The August 2003 TRAINS mag contained a map showing that NS had sold, leased or abandoned the line it bought from IC that ran from northern Alabama to Fulton, KY. Was that accurate? Any thoughts on why NS would give up that route? Seems like a great route for freight from the Deep South going to or through Chicago.
