Who knows I might just really need it, there are good indication of a layoff today at work. Hope not, but the aircraft industy is either feast or famine and because of the super bad economy and 9-11 added to the bad economy things in the aircraft field are a little (actually a LOT) screwed up. I hope that tonight when I get back on the computer I can say I still have a job but don't know until I go to work. We have had a layoff about 1 year ago, now it looks like another one is very close at hand. Not a good thing at all.

[/quote]

ok here is what happened tonight at work.

Unfortunately we DID have a layoff or as the company put it a workforce reduction. HUH, fancy words for people loosing their jobs. [V] Do I still have a job? PRAISE GOD YES I DO, THANK YOU JESUS. But I am very sadden by anyone loosing their job. Most of the people who lost their jobs today were from what we call the back shops. These are people who do not work on the aircraft but make small parts that do go on the aircraft, or sew on the seats, or plate the cupholders, or work in the wood shop. This may sound mean but it is not meant to. These shops, for the most part, are separated from the hangars. They have their own buildings away from the hangars, so we don't see or talk to these people as much as we do people from the other hangars. If you work on the plane then you know most of the people who work on the plane even though they may be from another hangar. We get sent from our primary hangar to work in other hangars as needed. Now we are an aircraft completion center. The plane is made in France, or should I say assembled in France from parts made in several other countries. One section of the plane is made in Italy. The "green" plane is flown over here. It is "just" barely legal to fly. It has only the very basic equipment to make it legal to fly. There is nothing, like you would expect to see in a plane, in the plane. It even comes over with a portapotty, that is taken out and cleaned, then returned to France for the next plane. We add everything here according to the individual customers requests. These planes are meant for big shot CEOs and very rich people. These are not your everyday jets like you would take if you flew from point A to point B. These planes are very unique and make to order. You will not see any one plane that looks exactly alike any other plane on the inside. It takes alot of people to do what we do, but now there are less of us to do it. We are also going to start 32 hour work weeks. They say this will last until January. Yes, I still do have a job, but it is a sad day for many people here. My heart goes out to all who now have no job. [|)]
