If you could drive a train a train through any " senic " area anywhere in the world where would you choose. Knowing that most of us aren't engineers the skills to drive the train would just come to us Magically.[:)] My choice would be Marias pass or the route that the Orient Express Takes.

I'd love to run Md & Pa no. 6, a 4-4-0 with their traditional two-car passenger train from North Ave. Station in Baltimore, up to York, Pa., as it all was about 1950, with peak Fall foilage. Man!

Me again. A close second to the above would be piloting Lancaster, Oxford & Southern number 5, a Baldwin 4-4-0, from Peachbottom to Oxford, Pa., circa 1910. Also peak Fall foilage. And NARROW GAUGE TOO!

I wouldn't mind driving Marias pass. But most of all i want to drive Alaska Railroad - all 400+ miles. It's very challenging. And its very scenic, too.

I guess that Marias Pass was always my favorite, too, but I remember it best from traveling westbound on the Empire Builder when the days were long and it was still on a three-night schedule between Chicago and the west coast. Libby Dam has inundated all those miles of track that used to wind along the Kootenay River west of Eureka.

Former SP Willamette Pass (now UP) and former SP Tillamook Branch between Timber and Wheeler (now POTB). Also the Inside Gateway between Oroville, CA, and Vancouver, WA (ATSF, WP, GN, SPS, now all BNSF with some overhead rights on UP)
