I am deaf.

My prayers for everyone involved. I think we will not learn the full story until the investigation is complete.

It is difficult to pick up vibrations of a puny train whistle that is being drowned out by the trembling earth being shaken by horsepower and rolling mass. At the volumes most hard of hearing can pick up the whistle. Profound deaf cannot but feel them.

If the deaf man was a local living near the track then he should know about the trains. Regardless I must also say that deaf can really use the other senses such as eyes and are observant as an eagle unless distracted by something else.
