Cost of Used Locomotives

Anybody have a good read on the cost of decent power these days?

A few months ago a good GP10 was bringing $75,000. Three years ago, the same unit was worth $110,000. Anybody got any other good reference numbers?

Johny H, the transportation superviser at a local cement plant had a chance to buy a SD-40 for $85,000. It had alot of hours on it and was blowing oil. It ran but needed rebuilt. Instead he picked up a GE U something from a broker. It was a ex conrail that ran great. Price paid $75,000.

About 10 years ago, 567 series power (GP/SD7, F7, E7, E8, E9, GP/SD9, F9, GP20, GP30, SD24, GP/SD 35) had former SP SD9's going for $35,000 or so depending on condition and the number of parts left on them.

For used locos, passenger cars, speeders, etc., check OzarkMountainRailcar.com
They have alot of older geeps, and 5 Alcos right now. They don't have much GE (hard to find a decent old U-boat), I especially like to check out the passenger equipment for sale. It is a pretty organized website and fun to look at the older stuff available.

Thanks. I have looked there, but I find their pricing on most locomotives to be well above the market price. That may not be true on the RS-2s and RS-3s, but those are museum pieces or junk anyhow... The GP7s and GP9s are well above market now.
