1. Making assertions about the lacking qualities of a dual mode locomotive based on the 50 year old technology of the FL9 is like saying the diesel-electric locomotive is only good for yard work (based on the original usage). Surely even the electrical engineering field has evolved over the past half century. <br /> <br />2. The reason the railroads won't adapt to any large scale electrifications is because there is no competitive incentive to do so. Railroads are natural monopolies, and as such can always pass on the cost of fuel to their captive shippers.
