One of my favorite places to go has always been along the UP Marysville subdivision just west of Marysville Kansas..... There is plenty of traffic and since they are pulling up out of or dropping down into the Big Blue River Valley,(where they have to stop for a crew change) they are either pulling hard or they are in dynamic braking mode. It makes for a good variety of sounds when shooting video. There are several places where a person can get good shots and not be on RR property, although you may have to seek landowners (aka farmers) permission. Going further west (about 8-10 miles) near Hanover KS, there are a lot of big cuts in the hills for the tracks and they are pulling up out of the Little Blue River valley.
