Torturing some guy to death as punishment just so a bunch of sadistic hacks can thrill over it is not something i want to be a part of the society I claim to be a member of.

I equate that type of mentality with the sort of folks who shove cherry bombs up cats rears and kick dogs to death with their new steel toe boots, "just to break them in"

No thank you!!

Side point being, you don't have to be guilty to be convicted in this country, accidents happen all the time.

now, i'm sure this guy in California is guilty...no doubt'

but, if we as a people devise a buncha sick "death by torture" penalties, under the assumption that only the guilty are convicted, and the guilty deserve whatever we can dream up .....what about the innocents who are wrongly convicted? Do they need to suffer maximally too?

Suppose I was a real sneaky guy, killed my neighbor, and managed to get the police to believe you did it? And, once suspicion was on you, it only serves my best interest to swear I saw you do it...but poor you, you were home alone that night so you have no credible alibi.

You get convicted, sentanced to death, and do you really wanna have to die in the most painful means possible, just so a buncha sadistic malcontents can pat each other on the back and exclaim "bo-ay..he shurrre got his'n,..huh?"...neither would I.
