Yo have the right to NOT remain silent
Posted by edblysard on Saturday, June 28, 2003 12:03 AM
Hi Guys,
Dont know about the rest of you, but the idea that any one of us should, or could, have the right, and I use that word losely, to decide what we can write about, or what we can say, based on their own version of what is moral, right or decent, is obscene.
Granted, the people who sponser this site have the legal right to request us to refrain from using certain words, one universally reconized as "cuss words", but beyond that, their censorship power ends. Yes, they have the legal right to edit, or alter a posting if it fails to meet their standards, but they have to do so to all postings, and edit all that dont meet the standards, not a select few, based on cabforwards personal prefrences.
He has appointed himself the forum morality police, not a bad promotion for a ex security guard, but beyond that, all of us must realize hes is as impotent as both mike and mossouri.
As long as we feed his ego, he will continue to try to decide for us what we should or shouldnt say, write or post.
Bluntly puy, I could care less if he is offended by anything said here, or in any other post.
He is neither my father, priest, or superior officer, and therefore has zero control over what I write, say, read or think, much less any real control over what you guys write or post.
You can count on this, the people at Kalambach will soon tire of him, understand he has found a new way to amuse himself, by being the schoolyard tattle-tale, and, just like with the school yard tattle-tale, the teachers will soon tire of him.
That said, I have re read some of the postings, and have come to a personal conclusion that some of us do exceed what is considered conversationaly acceptable language in public.
And this is a public forum. If this was a private forum, anything should go. I belive each and everyone of us has the legal right to express themselves in what ever form and with whatever words they so desire. But this isnt private, and the editors do and have modified some of the postings here, although they apparently though ***kerhead was ok, and woody was not. Go figure.
So here is my personal solution, and one that I have applied all along. I dont write anything I wouldnt say in front of my wife and kids.
Now the morality cop is going to jump on that statement, and get upset and indignent, with the attitude of, "you talk like that in front of your wife and kids?"
Yup.
And, on occasion, I have been know to walk around thehouse naked as a jay bird, I fart in public, and belch at the dinner table, lots if the food is good. I have even gone so far as to not use the finger bowls and a napkin, and wiped my hands on my pants.
Big hairy deal.
The point is, dont let the fun of this forum be taken away from us because a single person has a delicate constitution, or still lives in the world Walt Disney created.
And what he dosent understand is we dont live in a democracy, we live in a democratic republic. In a true democracy, every person has a equal vote, and any vote has to be unanaimous for law or rule to be inacted.
Every person has to vote for the same thing for it to happen. We live in a republic, which elects others to represent us, and act in our favor. These people are elected by a majority vote, and act for the good of the majority who elected them. (at least, thats how is supposed to work),
So heres the kicker.
We own this site, because we are the majority, the ones who use it most often, and enjoy it daily.
We decide, by our actions and reactions to postings here what does and doesnt stay active.
We, the majority, get to chose whats popular, and at the top of the list, and what dies quickly.
So join with me, if you want, and decide that we, the majority, dont need the forum police to tell us, all adults, what is ok and what isnt.
I know what I like to read, and what I dont like. I am free to pick and chose what I will respond to, how I will respond to it, and what words I will use in that response.
Anyone who has been here for a while, and read any of my postings, will note I have never used any of the "seven words you can't say on tv.
(thanks, george).
That too, is by choice. Its more fun to insult a person with out having to result to four letter words, and besides, it makes it hard for them to decide if I just called them a reamed rectum, or a retal reamer.
If you have a disenting opinion, well, the same law that says I have the right to write what I chose protects your viewpoint and writings, and offers you the same freedoms as it offers me. Even you have the same rights as the rest of us, cabforward, the same, not any more, or any less, but the same.
So if your inclined to, lets hear what you have to say about the self proclaimed forum policeman.
As for me, well, anybody who proclaims themselves a demigod, or a demagogue isnt worth too much of my time, I will just chuckle at their self proclaimed greatness, and go on about my business.
You guys Stay Frosty,
Ed

Censorship is un-American. Period!

Freedom of Speech is fundimental. If you dont like what someone is writing, you dont have to keep reading it.

   Have fun with your trains

Well said Ed.
I agree with you totally on this. And although I may have said some things that may not be in the best of mind of Trains.com, I do not nor will I ever regret them.

I have stated in my thread of "End Of The Line" that I will not respond to them anymore and I will not. If it is not railroad related, as was the spell check thing, I will.

Joe puts it very plainly: "LOOK, LISTEN, LIVE"

There is not much more to understand than that. I have seen first hand what a train can do to an automobile. It's just getting old to see all the fussing back and forth over something that can be prevented with a little common sense.

I am like some others here when it comes to this forum that I am here to learn and maybe teach others. I do not work for the railroad but rather read more into the history of them. And there is quite a history of them as well as history in the making with what you read about more mergers and the such.

I was like any 5 year old that a train was a "grand" thing to see. My love for trains has just continued through my adulthood.

I would just like to see things get back to what it was when I started writing on this forum about 2 months or so ago. Not the same thing about crossings every day.

And another thing: Do you by chance know Jeff Foxworthy? I read the things you do at home and they seem a lot like a redneck theme. But don't worry, here in KY I do about the same thing. The only difference is that when I fart in public I blame it on my wife or my kids. It's more fun to do it in the movie theater though. Those confined spaces are heck.

I have a guy I work with that did it at Wal-Mart and the lady in the aisle whipped her son because it smelled so bad. He told me he felt so bad about it that he confessed.

I was curious, I know that you work for NS. If you don't mind telling me where, what state? If you don't I understand.

The company I work for is on the line between Cincinnati and Danville KY. We are located about 20 miles south of Cincy. Didn't know if you were in the area or not.

Another reason to take your kids with you.
Yes, I know who foxworthy is, and I find some of the stuff he does funny beyond belife.
Mostly because that the impression most folks have of Texans, and Kentuckians(sp?)
Anyone south of the Mason Dixion line has to be a redneck.
The wll get over it.

I know, but that raises a question, who polices the police?
I noted old cab forward seems to have a double set of standards. In a reply to Kev, he got really carried away, and used a lot of things he said were foul and vulgar. Wonder what all the little kiddies reading that though about their new politicaly correct hero then?
Humm, guess cussing is ok for him, just not for the rest of us?
