It was an interurban in the Los Ageles area for years and years. Back in the early 1900s the P.E. had a horrendous accident (for that time period) and could not pay off all of the claims associated with the incident, so the S.P. stepped in and took care of the claims for the company and basicly took it over. The seniority of the train and engine emplyees was merged on March 31,1965 and the date was set back to March 31,1964 much to the dismay of 81 people that had hired out between those dates on the P.E. as prior right men and were now SP and not entitled to the agreements that covered the P.E. folks. So, in short, "save your ticket.... the P.E. will rise again " was a joking slogan amongst the men that were involved at the time, hoping that our beloved RR would somehow resurrect. There is still areas of the L.A. basin today that are referred to as the merged territory. The P.E. also had one heck of a freight operation. If you do a search on google I believe you may find quite a bit of info on the Pacific Electric.

Virlon

save your ticket....the P.E. will rise again.
