I like the EJ&E, because I live in Joliet, and I live pretty close to their tracks, they haul coal a lot of the time that you can see run through Rochelle, and then get to West Chicago where UP then gives the coal over to the J. Usually UP or SP Dash 9 power pulls the train. I caught an empty one heading toward West Chicago the other day that was going probably about 65 mph. The J also hauls freight using their SD-38 power every now and then. Every day at about 6:00 AM a local heads west to a refinery out past Minooka, Illinois,(anybody from Joliet or the surrounding areas knows where I'm talking about) with about 15 cars of petroleum, and about another 15 cars of plastic pellets. The train returns to Joliet at about 6:00 PM. The J over the last month has had there number of trains increase, which is why I like them.

I have to go with where I work, the PTRA, Port Terminal Railroad Association, a terminal road down here in Houston, Tx.
We get just about any type of power you could imagine running through here, from SD90MACs to SD40-2Bs,.
Last week, on a transfer run, the BNSF had, as a lead unit ahead of a Dash 9, a GP7.
Yup, a real one, even though it had a Cleborn cab, still had the tank skirts.
And behind the Dash 9 was a Santa Fe GP60B. I think Santa Fe were the only guys to buy that, not sure.
Pick a load, from farm equipment to turbines and generators, the windmills in the GE commericals, just about any chemical you could name, some you cant.
Auto racks full of Volvos and Volkswagons, every type of plastic made, box cars full of paper, reefers full of butter, grain trains, coke trains, wood chips cars, articulated flat cars, even a stray caboose once in a while.
And, I get to go home every night!
What a country!

Ok Kev, The Cal. Western motorcars orignally had distillate engines. The exhaust smelled so bad that the locals said that you could smell them before you see them. Hence the name Skunk Train.

Yes my dictionary tells me Skunk is the name of the stinky creature.


Up here.. we normally use the now englisized french word "Moufette"

everyone uses that.. So skunk was new to me.. i always used to say.. hey look.. a moufette!

So it's not the Skank train?
