When those engines were new I thought the BN's green and cream paint scheme was stunning and very classy. The same paint scheme looked great on the BN's executive F units (now at the Illinois Railroad Museum). Most new paint schemes leave me rather cold compared to the good old days but this particular scheme was a winner. In my opinion of course.

Dave: I have often wondered how the same railroad could have such good taste in the cream/green and then such lousy taste in the orange/green/yellow ick.

I agree wholeheartedly on the "elegance" of the green-and-cream color combination. I see them almost daily in coal service on the CSX tracks across the street (south suburban Chicago), and even a bit weatherbeaten after this many years, that color scheme still looks good. It's a pleasure to see a solid group of the green-and-cream ones, without a "glow in the dark" orange.
